Four miles southeast of Altenburg and 25 miles from the city of Leipzig is Altenburg Nobitz Airport. It is also known as AOC. Altenburg Nobitz is little airport in the state of Thuringia, Germany used for flights within Europe. It is the second most used airport in the state of Thuringia serving 200 000 passengers per year. It is undergoing a marketing plan to grow that number, including an official name change to Leipzig-Altenburg Airport. The name change was done quite recently and the airport is still commonly referred to as Altenburg Nobitz. Ryan Air operates several routes from AOC. Destinations include Edinburgh, Gerona and London-Stansted.
