Car rental location Altenburg Airport

Location information for Altenburg Airport

Four miles southeast of Altenburg and 25 miles from the city of Leipzig is Altenburg Nobitz Airport. It is also known as AOC. Altenburg Nobitz is little airport in the state of Thuringia, Germany used for flights within Europe. It is the second most used airport in the state of Thuringia serving 200 000 passengers per year. It is undergoing a marketing plan to grow that number, including an official name change to Leipzig-Altenburg Airport. The name change was done quite recently and the airport is still commonly referred to as Altenburg Nobitz. Cheap car hire from Altenburg Nobitz Airport (AOC) is the best option for convenient travel around this part of Germany.

Ryan Air operates several routes from AOC. Destinations include Edinburgh, Gerona and London-Stansted. Altenburg residents take pride in their historically significant airport, but a good deal more passengers come from the bigger city of Leipzig who use AOC as a cheap way to get from Leipzig to the routes Ryanair operates. On average, 15 flights per day operate here.

In the early part of the decade it was up to 18-20 flights, but Ryanair has dropped some its routes. Thus, crowds and line ups are not a problem here. Budget car rental desks and taxi stands can be reached at leisure.

Germany used this airport for its strategic value in both world wars. Its early fighter planes were based here. After WWII; the airport was held by communist Russia for 47 years. In 1992, after communism fell, the Altenburg Nobitz Airport began commercial operation.

Cheap car hire at Altenburg Nobitz Airport (AOC) is a good way to get around Thuringia and Leipzig. Tourists and business travelers find it is preferable, because taxis are hard to find here.
